Meet the Team

Lori Stephenson
Co-Founder / Registered Nurse / Prenatal Educator
Hi, I’m Lori, and possibly the most enthusiastic birth nerd you’ll ever meet. I didn’t always know I’d end up here - teaching prenatal classes, coaching new nurses, crying at births that aren’t even my own - but I do remember the moment everything changed. I was a student nurse, nervously shadowing a woman in early labour. I watched her move through the stages of birth with a kind of primal strength I hadn’t witnessed before. I offered her some likely useless suggestions and encouragement ( bless her heart for tolerating me). But when that baby finally arrived, and I watched it land on her chest, something cracked open in me. I was hooked. Birth is wild, intimate, raw, and sacred - and I knew I needed to be part of it. Fast forward 20 years, and I’ve now spent 17 of those immersed in obstetrics. I currently work at the Peter Lougheed Centre in Calgary as a Clinical Nurse Educator, helping labour and delivery nurses sharpen their skills and deepen their confidence. Teaching is one of my favourite things, whether it’s helping a nurse troubleshoot a tricky situation or walking first time parents through what to actually expect when they’re expecting. And while I’ve been part of thousands of other people's births, becoming a mom to three of my own babies brought its own kind of wisdom - the kind that only comes from being in a hospital gown, gripping the bed rail, and thinking, so this is what contractions feel like. Those experiences deepened my empathy, changed my approach, and reminded me that birth is never one size fits all. That’s why Hello Baby exists - because we believe education should be empowering, evidence based, and maybe even a little fun (yes, even when talking about mucus plugs). My hope is that you leave our classes feeling seen, supported, and just a little more ready to take on whatever birth, and parenthood throws your way. You’ve got this. And if you don’t feel like you do yet… well, that’s what I’m here for.

Helen Kiselev
Co-Founder / Registered Nurse / Prenatal Educator / Lactation Consultant
Hello expectant parents! My name is Helen. As a mom of two spirited little girls, I can appreciate the excitement and the apprehension that comes with new parenthood. Despite being a competent Registered Nurse, I remember the emotional discomfort of bringing my oldest daughter home from the hospital, thinking “Are they truly going to entrust ME to take care of this little baby?!”. As my husband and I figured out parenting the best way we could, I had wished that we had somehow been better at preparing ourselves for this journey. I believe that through guidance and support parents are empowered to embrace their birth experience and care for their little one with courage and confidence. As a life long learner, I continue to strive to contribute current and accurate information to you. Together with my training and experience in birth work, infant feeding, and child development my goal is to share this knowledge with you. My clinical experience lies in the area of Maternal and Child Health. For over a decade I have worked alongside families and babies as a Registered Nurse. I currently work at the South Health Campus on the Labor and Delivery and Postpartum unit. You may also see me at South Calgary Health Center as a Public Health Nurse visiting new babies and families once you’ve returned home! Additionally, as a Board Certified Lactation Consultant, I am passionate about helping families achieve their infant feeding goals.

Irena Stam
Registered Nurse / Prenatal Educator / Lactation Consultant / Prenatal Yoga Instructor
Hello! I’m Irena, one of the instructors at HelloBaby. Chances are that you’re reading this at a time when you are exploring ways to help prepare yourself for the birth of your baby. First off, congratulations – becoming a parent is truly a life-changing experience and such a meaningful and transformative time in your life! My passion for all things pregnancy, birth, and babies goes way back. Throughout my 40 year career as a Registered Nurse, I have had the privilege of supporting thousands of families as they transitioned into parenthood, both in the hospital and community settings. As a certified Lactation Consultant, I also find joy in helping new mothers and babies find their rhythm in their feeding journey. In recent years, I’ve shifted my focus somewhat away from the hospital to concentrate more on Birth Education and teaching Yoga. My role as a Pre/Postnatal Yoga instructor has allowed me to blend my love of Yoga with my passion for maternal health. What an honour to guide expectant mothers in connecting to their inner strength to prepare both physically and mentally for the birth of their baby! When I’m not on my mat or working with expectant families, you’ll likely find me walking my dog or enjoying lazy mornings sipping on strong coffee. Beautiful sunsets fill my soul. I have 3 grown children, and I am a very proud “Oma” to little Quinn and Owen. I am honoured to be part of the Hello Baby team – a group of passionate RNs committed to helping you feel informed, empowered, and ready for this next exciting chapter. You absolutely have what it takes and you’re going to be amazing parents. I can’t wait to meet you!

Erin Capnerhurst
Registered Nurse / Prenatal Educator / Prenatal Yoga Instructor
Hi! I’m Erin, and I am thrilled to be a part of your journey through pregnancy and childbirth. As a Registered Nurse with over 15 years of experience in Labour and Delivery, I have dedicated my career to supporting birthing families. My background as a Birth Educator and Prenatal Yoga instructor allows me to offer a holistic approach to childbirth, combining physical, mental, and emotional support. My fascination with the human body began at a young age. I was deeply interested in how it worked and how I could challenge it through sports and coaching. This passion led me to earn my first degree in Biology and Physical Education. However, it was supporting my sister during the birth of her second child that truly ignited my love for obstetrics. Witnessing the transformative power of birth and being a part of that sacred journey was nothing short of life-changing. Today, I balance multiple roles within the field of obstetrics. Whether I’m in the bustling environment of an OB clinic, assisting families on the unit at the South Health Campus, working as a high-risk antenatal nurse in the community, or teaching prenatal classes and yoga, my focus is on providing compassionate and informed care. Outside of work, I enjoy outdoor adventures with my husband and three children, spending time in the garden, practicing yoga, or simply enjoying a peaceful morning coffee on our country deck. I am passionate about helping families navigate the unique journey of pregnancy, childbirth, and postpartum. My goal is to help you prepare physically, mentally, and emotionally for an empowered and positive birth experience. Through prenatal education, I strive to help you feel confident, informed, and connected with your intuition, recognizing your journey as uniquely yours. I look forward to meeting you in class and supporting you through this incredible transformation!
